Full Membership Meeting – Fall

Please join us at our fall membership meeting on Thursday, October 29, 2020 at 5:00 PM. We will review this year’s officer elections, conduct the annual scholarship drawing, and discuss any other issues you would like to bring to the table. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, this meeting will be conducted remotely via Zoom. If you did NOT receive the Zoom invite by mail or email, please let us know at local8d@gmail.com.

We know this has been a difficult year for everyone. We hope to see and hear from you at the meeting.


Full Membership Meeting – Spring

We hope to see you at our spring membership meeting on Friday, March 6, 2020 at 1:00 PM at the Holiday Inn, 700 Myles Standish Blvd. in Taunton. The companies have authorized your release from work to attend. We hope this new meeting time results in great turnout. Our union is only as strong as its members! Please come and let us know what issues you are facing at work.

Special Membership Meeting on Retirement

We hope to see you at a special membership meeting to discuss retirement on Friday, November 1, 2019 at 1:30 PM at the Holiday Inn, 700 Myles Standish Blvd. in Taunton. Representatives from Alicare will be there to give a presentation and answer all of your pension-related questions. How are pension benefits calculated? What are years of service? How do I apply for a pension? Come find out!

Next Membership Meetings and Scholarship Drawings

Please join us for the next membership meetings on March 15, 2019 (United Liquors) and April 5, 2019 (Horizon Beverage) at 7:00 AM at the Holiday Inn-Taunton (700 Myles Standish Blvd, Taunton, MA 02780). 2017 Annual General Membership Meeting and Scholarship Drawing has been RESCHEDULED 

The November 18th General Membership Meeting and Scholarship Drawing has been rescheduled to December 2nd. The rescheduled meeting will still be held at the Holiday Inn-Taunton (700 Myles Standish Blvd, Taunton, MA 02780) from 7:00 to 9:00 AM.

Don’t forget to submit your child’s scholarship applications (Deadline: November 28th). We look forward to seeing you there!


 Labor Guild School Fall Term Begins September 26th

Starting September 26, 2016 a new Fall Term begins with the Labor Guild in their new Braintree location.

Classes are Mondays at 7pm from September 26th – November 14th at the Labor guild in Braintree with tuition at just $125 for the 7-week term. The Proposed Revisions have PASSED!

Revisions proposed to the UFCW Local 8D Union By-Laws have PASSED! In November 2015, a vote was held at the full membership meeting to determine if the proposed revisions to the union by-laws should or should not be ratified. A majority vote in favor of the proposed changes was passed and the revisions were ratified into the union by-laws. We encourage you to review the newly updated union by-laws found in the link below.

Proposed Revisions to the UFCW Local 8D Union By-Laws

A proposed revision has been made to the UFCW Local 8D union by-laws. For these revisions to be passed, a vote will be held at the next full membership meeting on November 5, 2015 to determine if they should or should not be ratified. Please review the proposed changes to the union by-laws to prepare for the upcoming vote.

RESCHEDULING OF AUGUST BARGAINING UNIT MEETINGS

Please be advised that the respective unit bargaining meeting on August 1st and August 8th for Horizon Beverages and United Liquors have been rescheduled for the following dates:

Massachusetts Jobs with Justice is a coalition of community, faith, and labor groups in Massachusetts who work to protect and promote workers’ rights. Local 8 has reserved a table at their Annual Dinner (details below). Join us to honor all of the incredible victories we have achieved through collective action!

 Registration for Labor Guild Spring Classes Now Open

The spring semester starts on March 16, 2015 and runs until May 18, 2015, and includes courses on the role of the shop steward, collective bargaining, the history of labor-management relations, among others. Classes take place on Monday nights in Weymouth. Registration is now open. This is a great opportunity to build your knowledge base and leadership skills by learning from each other and experienced practitioners.


 2015 UFCW International Scholarship Program

The UFCW International Union is opening the UFCW International Scholarship program for 2015. For more than 46 years, the UFCW International Union has administered their Scholarship Program to ensure both young UFCW members and their dependents have an opportunity to education. Online applications will be available from January 11, 2015 through March 15, 2015 for any students who have either graduated from high school, will be graduating from high school in the Spring of 2015, or who have received their GED.
